Thomas Cook demo
11 June 2005
Saturday
11 June saw a lively demo outside Thomas Cook in central Manchester.
Protesters held banners and placards, highlighting the plight
of animals shipped into this country through airports and ports
for use in horrific vivisection labs.
Protesters handed out several hundred leaflets calling on the public to boycott
Mauritius, as this country is the biggest exporters of primates for vivisection,
and to boycott the airlines involved in this barbaric trade.
Staff from Thomas Cook locked their doors soon after the protesters arrival
and then realised they wouldn't get any customers so sheepishly re-opened them
and informed the protest that the police were on their way. Obviously top of
their agenda, as 4 police officers sauntered along half an hour later. They
tried the standard way of trying to move us on by saying our demo was illegal
but armed with legal knowledge, the protesters weren't about to take that lightly.
After some time of legal debate, the police eventually left, probably regretting
getting into the conversation in the first place!!
The demo continued until all leaflets were handed out.
