Halifax demos postponed
3 May 2005
Saturday
7 May was due to see a National Day of Action against the Halifax
bank over their use of wild animals in TV commercials. The bank
has a current TV ad featuring a white tiger cub and in the past
have used monkeys despite complaints from animal protection groups.
Halifax's parent company HBOS has now contacted CAPS to say that they have
told their advertising agency to stop using wild animals in future ads. Although
we still need to get them to pull the current ad we have postponed the Day
of Action for now.
Thanks to everyone who has contacted Halifax to complain. We have heard
from lots of people who have moved their accounts and even mortgages to other
banks because of Halifax's use of animals, and this has clearly had an
impact on the company.
We'll keep you posted on developments. Information about other campaigns
by CAPS can be found on www.captiveanimals.org
