Selfridges and Bobby Roberts Circus demo
2 April 2005
Demos
are still continuing against Selfridges on a regular basis and
will do so until Selfridges give a no-fur policy.
The last demo proved to be a very positive one... perhaps the fact that the
sun was shining helped in this!! The response was very positive from the public
with several hundred leaflets and postcards (which people send off to Selfridges
to complain about their lack of concern for fur-bearing animals) being given
out.
After the fur demo, the protest moved off to Bobby Roberts circus who were
performing near Bolton. Whilst it was disheartening to see many cars parked
at the site (for the first performance), upon leaving many people said they
would never be going back after seeing how the circus treat the animals. There
were reports of the horses looking really unwell and underweight and also that
the circus staff were overwhipping the horses. People also complained about
the plight of the elephant. Many people said they would not go back to any
animal circus again in the future, never mind Bobby Roberts, as a result of
this experience.
Bobby Roberts were also performing in Knutsford the week previous and MAP went
down to protest about their use of animals; there was quite a lot of support
from passing traffic and the turnout from the public was not particularly good
for them. There were a few positive conversations between campaigners and the
public and a few ignorant remarks made by people who obviously didn't have
the skills to engage in conversation, rather preferring to shout inane comments!!
Bobby Roberts are currently travelling around the North West so MAP will endeavour
to demo every place they go. If you would like to get involved in these peaceful,
effective demos, please get in touch.
